FAQs for Web Categorization and Reputation Lookup

For web categorization and reputation lookups by URL filer, database of TrustedSouce (https://trustedsource.org) is used to provide additional information.

What is TrustedSource?

The TrustedSource is a global threat correlation engine and intelligence base. It follows trends in email, web traffic, and malware, and assigns Web Reputation ratings.

What does URL categorization mean?

The TrustedSource database uses categories to organize similar types of URLs into groups based on the content of the webpage. For example, www.skyhighsecurity.com, www.trellix.com and www.webwasher.com are grouped into the Business category. Sometimes, one URL is in more than one category because of overlapping content.

How's a URL classified in a URL category?

The categorization of a particular URL is a defined process using objective standards and definitions. To gather and rate potential websites, we use several technologies and artificial intelligence techniques. These techniques include link crawlers, security forensics, honeypot networks, sophisticated auto-rating tools, and customer logs. Our international, multi-lingual Web Analyst team reviews candidate sites, and adds the URLs to the database.

What's the TrustedSource web reputation?

The TrustedSource system determines good and bad internet reputation by analyzing worldwide internet behavior. TrustedSource views the sending patterns for email, web activity, malware, and computer-to-computer behavior. From this data, TrustedSource dynamically calculates reputation scores that represent the risk to your network when you visit a webpage. The result is a database of reputation scores for IP addresses, domains, specific messages, URLs, and images.

How does TrustedSource determine the reputation of a URL?

TrustedSource uses an automated process that looks at many different security attributes of that URL. These attributes include the URL's content, where the URL is listed on the internet, the URL's domain behavior, and other factors. TrustedSource determines a score that represents the risk to your network, computers, and personal information when you visit any URL. The reputation score is represented in the database regardless of its categorization status. This process means that a URL can have a web reputation score, but isn't in any category.

How can I address a website, URL, or IP address that's miscategorized or uncategorized?

You can submit the website, URL, or IP address that you want to be reviewed using the URL Feedback support form

How long does it take for my request to review or change a category to be carried out?

When a registered account is used, most content changes are assigned within 24 hours. Requests that require further review take, on average, 3–5 days until the request is processed. If you don't get any responses, contact Skyhigh Security Support to escalate it to the next level.

NOTE: Anonymous submissions by unregistered users might take longer to review because they're of a lower priority.

Do I have to register to the portal before I can submit a request?

No, for a single URL/IP/Website request, you can use the portal without registration.

What are the advantages of registration on the portal?

As a registered user, you have access to the following extra features:

  • Higher priority and shorter processing time than anonymous submissions
  • View URL List File
  • Track URL Ticket Status
  • Submit BotnetCC URL
How many requests for re-categorization can I put in the portal?

We've designed the web-based service for occasional use by individuals. If you have hundreds or thousands of URLs you would like to test, email sites@trellix.com, detailing your requirements.

We reserve the right to deny access if we see heavy use of this web-based service by automated programs.
