About End User Notification Pages

When a user's request to access a file or other web object is affected by an action in a rule of your web policy, for example, when the request is blocked, Secure Web Gateway sends a notification to the user. The notification informs the user, for example, that the request was blocked and why it was blocked.

This notification is referred to as End User Notification Page. To configure it, you work with the following items:

  • Template — To configure an End User Notification Page, you work with a template. For example, a template includes a URL field. When the page is sent to a user who had a request blocked, this field is filled with the URL that the user submitted with the request.

Other elements of a template for notification page include, for example, the header, the message text, and the footer. There are several default templates that you can modify to make them suit your requirements.

  • Settings — A template is an important part of the settings for an End User Notification Page. Other settings include the language of the page, and the block reason. These settings are also referred to a as Feature Configuration settings or simply Feature Configurations.

For example, you modify the Anti-Malware template and then configure it as one of the parameters of the Virus Found settings.

  • Action — An action in a web policy rule is configured with Feature Configuration settings. For example, you configure a block action that blocks a request to access a malware infected web object with the Virus Found setting.

When this action is executed, an End User Notification Page is sent to the user who submitted the request. The page looks like what you have configured for its template and settings.

Working with Templates for End User Notification Pages

You can also import templates in HTML format. You need to use these templates as they are. You cannot clone them. For more information, see Import HTML Templates.

Configuring an End User Notification Page as Setting for a Block Action

For each of the block actions in the rules of your web policy, you can configure an End User Notification Page. The page is configured as setting for the block action. There are different ways to configure this setting.

  • For the rules in the default rule sets that block requests, you can access a menu by clicking the three dots at the end of the line for a rule.

This menu provides an option for selecting a setting for the block action of the rule.
  • When configuring service groups for the Application Blocking and Activity Control default rule sets, the setting for the End User Notification Page is shown in the configuration area.

You can click this setting to open a settings list and select a different setting as needed.

  • When creating a rule with the Rule Builder, an option for selecting a setting for a block action is provided after you have selected this action.

For more information, see Create a Rule with the Rule Builder.

Restriction to Configuring Language Support for End User Notification Pages

When working with a template for an End User Notification Page, you can configure the language of the text on the page. This applies, however, to the default templates only.
