Clone and Edit a Rule Set

You can clone and edit a rule set in the policy tree to preserve the default configuration and customize it for different requirements. After you clone the rule set, you can edit the rules.

For instance, if you need to modify specific details and test them, you can clone using the clone and edit option. You can disable the original policy and test the cloned version without affecting the original rule set. If you need to customize settings or if you have two different zones where some configurations must be unique while many settings remain the same (such as enabled policies that function identically), you can clone and utilize the entire rule set. This approach minimizes changes from the existing/original policy. Whether you intend to use, modify, or reuse it, cloning offers flexibility for adaptation.

  1. Select Policy > Web Policy > Policy.
  2. In the policy tree, select a branch, then select a rule set. Navigate to any rule set, whether predefined, custom, or migrated on-premises rule set.
  3. You can click three dots next to the on/off toggle, then select Clone and Edit.

NOTE: When using the Clone and Edit option for any rule set, you can copy multiple hierarchies simultaneously.

  • A copy of the rule set is added to the policy tree. You will find a copied version of the rule set with a name appended by copy.
  • Once cloned, you can modify any details or fields within the policy, such as Name, Criteria, Operator, and Value.
  • If you decide to publish the changes, they can be implemented accordingly.

When you clone a rule set, it will appear adjacent to the original rule set and not at the end. If you wish to change its position, you can simply drag and drop it wherever you prefer. Other functionalities remain similar to the existing rule set; the only difference is that it inherits settings from its parent rule set from which it was cloned.

Changes to the policy tree, rule sets, or rules are automatically saved. You can publish them to the cloud or keep working and publishing them later.
