Create a Classification using True File Type

The True File Type classification method allows you to define the true file types, which can be used to match, process, and protect sensitive data during the DLP policy evaluation. This classification method can detect attachment violations even when file extensions are renamed and sent as attachments.

For example, you can use this classification criteria to identify a TXT file containing sensitive information that has been saved as a DOC file. This method enables you to identify and manage sensitive files and protect sensitive data leaving your organization.

To create a classification using True File Type:

  1. Go to Policy > DLP Policies > Classifications.
  2. Click Actions > Create Classification
    • Classification Name. Enter a name for this classification. For example, True File Type Detection. Enter an optional description to describe its use or purpose.
    • Category. Select a Category from the list. For example, Sensitive.
    • Conditions. Click Select Criteria and choose True File Type. The True File Type cloud card appears.
