About the Model F Appliances
Generation F of the appliance hardware for Secure Web Gateway includes these models:
-
WBG-5000-F
- WBG-5500-F
The hardware platform used for the model F appliances is provided by a vendor. This vendor is Super Micro Computer, Inc., shortly referred to as Supermicro.
More information about these appliance hardware models can be found as follows.
-
For hardware, environmental, and other specifications, see Secure Web Gateway Model F Appliances Data Sheet.
- For information that is mostly not vendor-specific, but specific to running Secure Web Gateway on these appliance models, see the sections under WBG-5000-F and WBG-5500-F.
The following sections also provide more information about these models.
User Manual Provided by the Vendor
The vendor provides a user manual for the hardware platform where the Secure Web Gateway appliance software for the model F appliances is run on. For this user manual, see https://www.supermicro.com/manuals/c.../SCLB16-AW.pdf.
NOTE: Be aware that the above link might not work as expected, as the vendor can modify the path to this user manual and also replace or remove the document at any time.
Grounded Power Outlet and Reliable Ground for a Hardware Platform
When operating a model F appliance on its hardware platform, pay attention to the following:
-
A grounded AC power outlet nearby is required.
-
A reliable ground for the hardware platform must also be maintained at all times. For example, when the appliance hardware box is installed in a rack, the rack itself should be grounded.
- Particular attention should be given to power supply connections other than the direct connections to the branch circuit, for example, to power strips and similar devices.
For more information about these requirements, see the introduction and the installation chapter of the vendor manual.
Reset BIOS Password
On Model F appliances, the BIOS may sometimes be password-protected. To access the BIOS options, press Del to enter the BIOS setup during startup.
If you know the current BIOS password, follow these steps to remove it:
- Go to Security > Administrator Password.
- Enter the current BIOS password.
- When prompted for a new password, leave the field blank and press Enter.
- When prompted to confirm clearing the existing password, press Enter again.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS setup.
RAID Initialization
When you start a model F appliance hardware box for the first time, a red LED flashes on its front panel.
This is due to the RAID initialization that takes place then.
Retrieving Hardware Status Information
You can retrieve status information for your model F appliance hardware using the Supermicro SuperDoctor5 (SD5) tool. This tool is available to you if you are working with Secure Web Gateway 12.2.16 or later releases of the appliance software.
For more information, see Retrieve Hardware Status Information with the SuperDoctor5 (SD5) Tool.
Supported Secure Web Gateway Appliance Software Versions
Due to their new baseboards and other changes, the model F appliances do not support older versions of the Secure Web Gateway appliance software.
The following table shows the software versions that are supported.
| Main version | Supported on model F appliances |
|---|---|
| 12.x.x | 12.1.1 and later |
