Supported Virtual and Cloud Platforms
Skyhigh Secure Web Gateway (SWG) is supported across a wide range of platforms. They are categorized into Virtual and Cloud deployments.
This document provides an overview of all the currently supported platforms.
Virtual Platforms
This section describes all the virtual platforms that support Secure Web Gateway.
KVM
The Skyhigh Secure Web Gateway can run as a virtual appliance on a KVM host that uses the Ubuntu operating system.
Test environment details used for POC:
- Host Ubuntu 22.04.3
- KVM QEMU emulator version 6.2.0
For more details, see About Installing Secure Web Gateway on KVM.
Nutanix
The Skyhigh Secure Web Gateway is supported in an explicit proxy mode in a Nutanix environment.
NOTE:
- Secure Web Gateway on Nutanix supports explicit proxy and proxy HA modes but no transparent modes.
- Nutanix image is a paid subscription, and Skyhigh recommends to buy a new SKU and download a Nutanix-supported image from the Content & Cloud Security Portal.
For more details, see About Installing Secure Web Gateway on Nutanix and other requirements.
VMware ESXi
The following table describes the compatibility of VMware versions with Secure Web Gateway.

---|---|---|---|---|
SWG 12.x.x | No | No | Yes | Yes |
For more details, see Physical and Virtual Appliance Requirements.
Hyper-V
Hyper-V is a role that a Windows server takes when a virtual appliance is installed.
The following are the Windows servers supported as Hyper-V servers:
- Windows Server 2022 (64-bit)
- Windows Server 2019 (64-bit)
- Windows Server 2016 (64-bit)
For more details, see Physical and Virtual Appliance Requirements.
Public Cloud Platforms
This section describes all the public cloud platforms that support Secure Web Gateway.
AWS
The following table describes a few tasks and associated AWS instance types.
NOTE: Secure Web Gateway in an AWS environment does not include web caching, reducing hard-disk space requirements.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
When installing Secure Web Gateway on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), you must select a shape, which acts as a template defining system components like CPUs and memory. OCI provides various shapes with different component values. Currently, the OCI supports shapes with Intel or AMD CPUs, but does not support Bare Metal instances.
NOTE: RAM requirements depend on the number of OCPUs (Oracle CPUs) and are sufficient for the examples provided. For a production environment, Skyhigh recommends a minimum of 32 GB of RAM.
The following table describes various OCI shapes:
